2006 Ethel Luken Dedication Award

Lauren Beckum of Hughes High School received the Ethel Luken Dedication Award at 2006 Spring Games

The Ethel Luken Dedication Award is named after the former Executive Director of Hamilton County Special Olympics who retired in 1993 after 19 years of dedication to Special Olympics.  Athletes nominated for this award must exemplify the dedication and hard work necessary for success.

Lauren was nominated by her Coaches Ellen Boaz and Nancy Wetterer, who had great things to say about the Special Olympian.

"We would like to nominate Lauren Beckum for the Ethel Luken Award.  Lauren has participated in Special Olympics for over 6 years.  The words in the Special Olympics oath that says “Let me be brave in the attempt” certainly holds true for Lauren.  She has participated and given her best effort in many Special Olympics events.  In addition, Lauren has made tremendous improvement in all of her gymnastics routines over the last couple of years.  She has also been involved in bowling, soccer, roller skating, snow skiing, basketball, track & field, to name a few.  Lauren helps out with the other athletes with whatever is needed and shows her accomplishments with a big, beautiful smile.  Lauren is graduating this year and we will miss her.  We all wish her the best of luck!"
