Our Mission Statement

Our mission it to provide year-round sports, training, and competition in a variety of sports for children and adults with mental and developmental disabilities in order to create continuing opportunities for them to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience the joy of achievement, be included in the community, build skills, and make friends.

Our goal is for all persons with mental and developmental disabilities to have the opportunity to become useful and productive citizens who are accepted and respected in their communities.

About Hamilton County Special Olympics

  • Hamilton County Special Olympics of Ohio (HCSO) is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization accredited by Special Olympics Inc. — one of 52 accredited entities operating in the United States.
  • HSCO is a local and an area chapter, under the division of Special Olympics Ohio.  it is totally dependent on donations, personal contributions and corporate sponsorship from the local community.  HCSO is not subsidized by Special Olympics Ohio or International Special Olympics, nor is it affiliated with United Way.
  • HCSO ensures the highest possible percentage of donations goes directly to programs offered to Special Olympics athletes.  Volunteers fill typical staff roles to keep administration costs at a minimum.
  • HCSO offers 24 different year-round athletic and recreational programs within Hamilton County.
  • HCSO relies on a staff of three and nearly 600 community volunteers to assist with programs and administrative duties.
  • An elected Board of Trustees governs HCSO.
  • HCSO serves over 1,800 athletes with developmental and mental disabilities, ranging in age from eight to eighty.
  • Special Olympics athletes receive a minimum of eight weeks of training from volunteer coaches in their chosen sport(s) prior to competitions.
  • There are over 100 certified Special Olympics coaches currently participating in HCSO.

Hamilton County Special Olympics is committed to your privacy and guards any data which you provide in a confidential manner.  Neither HCSO nor our website provider collect personally identifiable information.  We will respond to an email when you request a response.  It is not our policy to share, sell or make public any information provided to the agency.  Donors or event sponsors may be identified in materials associated with a gift or special event.  Donors NOT wishing their names published are asked to signify this when making the gift or sponsorship.  We will do everything in our power to honor ALL such requests.
